Musings for December 12, 2007 "the Snow is here" by Nancy
Wow! Foliage is over, and we're finally catching our breaths. November poked right along, and December, which is historically a very quiet month, is knocking our sox off! With 2 weeks and the holiday to go (and some availability left) we are already at a record-setting guest level. Whats better is that we've had more time with our guests, and everyone is happy, mello, relaxed, smiling...
Lon has been hard at work on a 3 week project for 6 weeks now. We figure he HAS to be done by the holidays cuz I've rented the rooms he is renovating. Why do I foresee wallpapering til 3am in my future? Anyway, we took the two rooms that plagued us with ugliness since we bought the place 7 years ago, and have gutted them down to the studs. Rooms 305 and 205 now sport FLAT floors (they were out over 8" corner to corner), brand spanking new baths (whirlpool tubs, lovely laminate floors, beautiful new appliances, bright cheery walls), and brand new corner fireplaces. Very soon to come we'll see carpeting, designer wallcoverings and window treatment, the whole nine yards. Its all in the garage (or in my office) waiting for Lon to finish up tracking down that one circuit that just doesn't turn off where it should (or turn on where it should, for that matter!). Such is the fun of renovating a historic building.
Christmastime is fast upon us. Our cut your own Christmas Tree package has gone well, but the star of the year has been our involvement with Polar Express. It was a leap of faith to invest the $2500.00 to be able to buy tickets (thats the cost for a hotel to have the right to purchase up to 60 tickets...and doesn't include the tickets themselves...) Still, we sold out and filled the inn with happy children and relieved parents. Went through a lot of hot cocoa and gingerbread pancakes these past weeks. Just getting in practice for the holiday vacation.
New Years Eve is another story -- fancy 7-course dinner, but else a laid back and relaxed time.
Hope to open the nordic center very soon, though we've had guests out skiing already. And we have discounted lift tickets for Cannon already on site. Finally, new improvement (and my kids #1 Christmas Present) - we hope to install a new 26x52 skating rink for our guests and family this next week. Wheee!
Hope to see you soon! Or just keep in touch with email!
